Domaine De La Gyalthang High Altitute Chardonnay 2023 by Xiao Pu

Gyalthang was a name once used for Shangri-La / Deqing /Zhongdian. Because of the unique terroir of Yunnan, we have given the wines from this region a new name — Domaine de la Gyalthang.

The vineyards are located at the foothills between 2000 and 3000 meters elevation. On the screen, this region is vast! It covers northwest Yunnan, southeast Tibet, and the western and southern parts of Sichuan. Lhasa, Jiuzhaigou, and Lijiang form the vertices of a triangle within which there is abundant terroir suitable for wine grapes. Shangri-La in Yunnan is the first well-known area, but it is only a starting point.

This is a treasure trove. In 30 or 50 years, this region could produce wines reminiscent of Barbaresco or Chianti, Coulee de Serrant is not out of the question, or even another Clos de Tart.

The wine undergoes natural fermentation, slight skin contact, and aging in old oak barrels.
